H-1B visas for FY 2015

The FY 2015 H-1B cycle is upon us.  Employers interested in employing a foreign worker should make their hiring decisions and commence processing H-1B cases within the next 30 days.

U.S. businesses use the H-1B benefit to employ foreign workers in specialty occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise in specialized fields, including but not limited to teachers, architects, scientists, engineers, and computer programmers.  The annual cap on new H-1B workers for FY 2015 is 65,000.  The petition prudently must be filed with UU/CIS on April 1, 2014 to have a chance of obtaining a number.

Please contact Julie Hoomany, Sr. Legal Assistant, at 386-274-0044 or by email: Juliana.Hoomany@TheImmigrationFirm.us, to schedule a consultation with David F. Vedder, Esq. to discuss your case.

California Supreme Court Finds Undocumented Immigrant Can Be Admitted to State Bar

The court concluded that there is no state law or state public policy that would justify precluding undocumented immigrants, as a class, from obtaining a law license in California, and held that the applicant possesses the requisite good moral character. AILA also filed an amicus brief in this case, along with several other organizations

House Bi-Partisan Budget Deal Gives Hope to Immigration Activists Description:

One day before Congress left town for the holiday recess, the House of Representatives approved a two-year budget deal by a wide margin. Despite some GOP opposition to the plan, House Speaker John Boehner allowed a vote on the plan, which passed with a majority of Democratic and Republican votes. The budget outline now heads to the Senate for a vote. Before the vote on Thursday, Boehner attacked extremely conservative factions within his party who he said were standing in the way of progress.------

As Congress Looks to Next Year, Activists Keep Immigration Reform Alive Description:

Congress takes a holiday break at the end of this week and won’t return from recess until January. This pause in the legislative calendar, however, has little meaning for immigration activists who are continuing to push Congress to act on immigration reform. While the timetable may be changing, the commitment to work for reform has not, as evidenced by the tremendous support garnered by the Fast for Families campaign.
